| Volunteers who
participate in a variety of functions to help Wayside become the best
possible theatre are members of this action group. Join and you'll
have the chance to meet the cast members, the artistic staff,
participate in educational programs, meet lots of interesting people
involved in the arts, and help your resident professional theatre
grow.
Each season PROPS sponsors events and
fund-raisers to assist the theatre. The proceeds generated by these
activities have enhanced the Curtain Call with new electrical wiring,
ice coolers, lights, and air conditioning in addition to contributing
towards the purchase of a vacuum cleaner, piano, air conditioners for
staff housing, electrical and sound systems and new linens for our
visiting actor houses. PROPS' projects range from the "Spring
Fling Yard Sale" to the "Annual Classy Trash Sale "in
the Fall where Wayside patrons can donate items and receive a tax
deduction, selling ice cream/cake at the Summer Musical Festival in
Orkney, Annual Luncheon for all volunteers in June and a Picnic in
July, and the Annual Tree of Stars for patrons to add a
"Star" in someone's memory or honor, and selling
refreshments at various community events.
PROPS volunteers are also ushers, a
vital resource at show time!!!! Beginning in January of 2003, PROPS
set a bimonthly meeting on the 4th Monday of January, March, May, July
and September, at a local eatery- dutch treat dinner at 6:00 PM and
then in November it will be the third Monday to be in the Curtain Call
Café with a covered dish supper and then we decorate the hall for
Christmas.
The Theatre also likes to let these
folks know just how much they are valued. In 2002 the first volunteer
luncheon was held in the Curtain Call Café with over fifty of these
wonderful people attending. This event is held annually with over 50
attending as well as members of our Board of Directors thanking these
important volunteers for their service to Wayside Theatre and letting
them know how important they are to us and our community.
So if you want to be a theatre
volunteer and be involved in all of these exciting opportunities, just
give the office a call at (540) 869-1782 or (540) 869-1776 or the
chair of the PROPS committee, Barbara Scarlett, at (540) 869-3045. |
