An Immersive Professional Experience
Offering professional production opportunities for area youth, Emerging Artists productions are free for participants. Directed and designed by staff at Wayside Theatre, the shows give students ages 13-18 an immersive experience that awards them with an opportunity to excel.
Fall Production - A New Work Production
The fall Emerging Artists production teams playwrights with actors to perform an original work. New works present unique challenges and are a great way for youth to learn about the mechanics of theatre while developing their skills as artists. It is always exciting to work on a play that has never been seen before, and as everyone involved has a hand in creating the final product, it is truly their play.
The playwrights participate in an intensive summer workshop to craft a completely original one-act play and are present every step of the way from original concept to final production. Actors join the process in late-summer for a staged reading workshop, and then again in the fall to rehearse and perform the polished product.
Our extraordinary teens write about extraordinary teens from history. These figures are chosen by the Young Ambassadors’ Guild and have included Belle Boyd, George Washington and Harry Houdini. Next year’s famous teen is Mary Shelley, who wrote Frankenstein.

In addition to traditional rehearsals, cast members participate in several workshops including “Shakespeare Bootcamp”, which explores Shakespeare’s language, and Stage Combat.
This production is an immersive, well-rounded Shakespearian experience supported by a professional staff. Auditions are usually held in January. Watch the announcements page for audition information.
