Compete for the Best-Crafted Play of the Year!
Our Young Playwrights Festival allows any student in High School to submit an original play for review. Chosen plays go through an intensive editing process with a member of the Wayside artistic team and the playwright learns about building complex characters, developing plot and creating a strong script. The playwright is also part of rehearsals for a public staged reading of their play, working closely with the actors and director to bring their script to life. This professionally produced staged reading is free and open to the public, performed on the Wayside stage, and followed by a talkback with the author which is moderated by Wayside's artistic director. Young Playwrights Festival offers a unique opportunity for beginning playwrights to see their work performed live for an audience.
All winners receive the T. Carter Fussell award for playwriting.
For more information and syle requirements please see the submission guidelines.
The final deadline for submissions is March 1, 2012.
